RAC gives students the chance to be famous
The RAC, together with the Film and Television Institute of WA and the Brand Agency, launched a competition on 4 February to challenge students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to design and produce a road safety advertisement targeting young motorists their own age.
Fame – named because the competition gives students the chance to have their five minutes of fame in the artistic spotlight – was designed with the school curriculum in mind so teachers can include the competition as part of their school programme. The program will be communicated through the RAC’s Community Ed team.
“Fame aims to raise awareness of road safety in young people aged 15 to 17 and encourage students to consider the factors that contribute to the alarmingly high proportion of serious injuries and road fatalities involving young drivers,” said RAC Community Ed Manager, Kate Bell.
“By including the competition as part of the school programme, teachers are able to offer a medium for their students to develop their artistic skills while important of road safety messages are also reinforced as the students explore themes for their projects.”
Students can work individually or in groups (maximum four students per group) to produce an advert across a range of different media on a variety of topics, including alcohol & drugs, speed, fatigue, seat-belts and distractions.
The best entries will be judged by a panel including road safety and advertising experts.
There are great prizes to be won and the winning entries will be seen by thousands of people across the state through RAC Community Ed presentations.
The competition begins on 4 February 2008, with the deadline for entries being 4 July 2008. Judging takes place throughout July with awards presented in August. To find out more about how to enter, visit www.fame.rac.com.au.
